Is it just me or does anyone else
understand why you have to pay to get into Honor Society? We work all year to
get good grades and keep up a good GPA and then we have to pay 25 dollars to be
recognized for it? No, that's a bunch of bull crap. You want to be recognized
by awesome colleges and eligible for more scholarships? All right, I want this
much money for it. Does that even make sense? This is just one of the stupid
ways a program tries to trick people into paying for something that they
shouldn't have to pay for. Honor Society should be free. If you earn good
grades and have a 90% attendance rate with little to no disciplinary/criminal
background, you shouldn't have to pay money to be recognized for that. This is
probably WHY a lot of kids don't feel the need to try, because it's just a
bunch of crap. Some children don't have money! So if they don't have money you
wont let them be in a club that could benefit their future for college
applications and jobs dramatically? If they are financially unstable then they
cannot be acknowledged for the hard work they put themselves through to try and
make a better future. That is one of the stupidest things I've ever even heard
in my life. It's an honor to be apart of the club; don't get me wrong, but if
you are going to make your students pay to be appreciated by others for their
hard work, then you need to rethink what goals you are trying to teach your
youth. What I'm seeing is whether you do nothing in school or do everything,
you have to pay money to even have someone important cognize your achievements.
Rant is now accomplished.
This is what administrators had to say "The National Career Technical Honor Society is part of a national organization and the $25 is due to the organization. They do provide us with certificates, stickers, honor cords, etc. Actually this year one of our students is receiving a scholarship from this organization too! "
ReplyDeleteI do see your point. In the past, anyone who could not afford it told the advisor and something was worked out.
They can do something else to raise money though like fundraisers or even a car wash. It shouldn't be the student's responsibility in my mind.
